I worked with Curly at USAA in the late 90s and loved to hear about his musical experiences. I grew up with Motown and “STAX”’music so Curly and I would share music trivia quite often.
I recall him telling me about playing with Etta James [and I telling him when I first heard Etta]. It was an album (vinyl) where she has a cast on and the recording is “live.”
Curly told me he played on that album and told me about the broken wrist.
We would share about Archie Bell and The Drells, The Delfonics, The Manhattans, Bloodstone and how he knew and in someway influenced that style of music.
We also spoke of “The Commands” and my good friend (drummer-Roger Ruiz), who played the kit on “No Time For You.”
I miss Curly and am HONORED to have known him and shared musical memories with him.
God Bless you Curly and you are missed my Brother in Christ.
