Your guide to Music, Gear and Lifestyle...

Lance and Lea are Nashville's ultimate case of an unlikely duo whose wildly different roots give their music its raw, unfiltered edge. LeAnna Kaufman grew up in a strict Amish household in Colorado, finding her voice in quiet country churches, while Lance Kotara spent years slugging it out in the gritty, smoke-filled clubs of the Texas rock circuit. When they finally crossed paths in Music City, that clash of styles sparked a blazing creative chemistry. They didn’t take the easy road; instead, they hit the pavement, racking up over 100,000 grueling road miles and dropping fan-funded records completely on their own terms—even snagging "New Artist of the Year" at the iHeart Radio Rocky Mountain Country Music Awards along the way. With their 2026 EP, Blues For Breakfast, they strip away the Nashville polish to deliver a gritty, front-porch masterpiece, letting Lance’s blistering Texas blues riffs collide head-on with Lea's powerhouse harmonies.

The Deep Dive

Blues For Breakfast, starts off with a Frank Beard kind of rim shot riff and understated vocals before a hot riff by Lance on guitar sets this blues rocker off. Lance’s gritty lead vocals and foot-stomping guitar work blending with Lea's solid harmonies make this a strong opener. Easing into Salt & Pepper, a slow, simmering blues number shows just how nicely the vocals work together and Lance's guitar work is tight and soulful.

Winding it out on rocker, Blues Man, this sound feels influenced by Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone with a country twist. Lance really breaks loose leaving no concern that he has it under his fingers and Christian Harper on B3 and Evan Sieling on drums push the drive. Wrapping the release with True To These Roots, Lance and Lea blend as nicely as Lindsay and Stevie with a real country pop flair and slick guitar riffs on an echoplex give the track a floating feel over thumping tom tom work by Sieling. Solid release.

This solid roots project delivers high-energy blues-rock and simmering grooves fueled by gritty vocals and stellar harmony chemistry. Blazing guitar work takes center stage over driving organ and thumping drums on the heavier tracks, while the slower cuts show off a soulful, tight instrumentation. Wrapping up with a polished country-pop flair, floating echo guitar riffs and heavy percussion anchor a cohesive and nicely done release.

Bman's Verdict

Blues For Breakfast is a solid, high-energy roots project that seamlessly blends gritty vocals, stellar harmony chemistry, and blazing guitar work across a dynamic landscape of simmering blues and driving country-rock.
