Your guide to Music, Gear and Lifestyle...

Brigitte Purdy returns to center stage with her latest studio release, Mother of the Crossroads, a record that effortlessly bridges the gap between classic soul and hard-hitting blues-rock. Produced alongside multi-instrumentalist Dave Osti via Dirtshack Records, the project introduces listeners to a raw, deeply blues landscape shaped by Purdy's roots as a powerhouse vocalist and seasoned live performer. Backed by vintage keyboard textures, driving rhythm sections, and sharp instrumentation, this introductory chapter sets a strong foundation for an album that honors classic roots traditions while firmly establishing Purdy’s own voice in the contemporary scene.

The Deep Dive

Mother of the Crossroads fires up with high energy right out of the gate on the opening track, Sugar Fried Candy. This thumping blues-rock number features atmospheric keyboard texturing by Drake Shining and a crunching lead guitar work by Dave Osti. Purdy's take-charge vocals immediately set an authoritative tone for the record balancing between soulful vocals and a rock rhythm. On Memphis Hotline the album settles into a gritty, greasy shuffle steeped heavily in Tennessee R&B style. Backed by a Drake Shining on Hammond B-3 organ, Purdy explicitly tips her hat to local legends and landmarks like B.B. King, Beale Street, and the Blue Note bar, highlighting the album’s traditional roots.

Losin Time for Love, driven by resonant acoustic and electric guitar work laid down by Osti, allows Purdy to move effortlessly, displaying her vocal control beneath a dense, atmospheric arrangement and featuring a solid slide solo by Osti. Too Full of You, has a country kick with a swaggering vocal dialogue. Co-written by Osti and Purdy, it leans heavily into southern style guitar riffs and a rock-solid rhythm section that allows Purdy to display the grittier, heavier side of her vocal capabilities. Rise Like the Water, wraps the release in spectacular fashion with a funky rock fused rhythm. With special guest Jimmy Keegan on drums, this track is the radio track on the release with a Glenn Frey kind of feel and an extended B3 solo by Shining.
